7 TÄLER draws on a passage from Fariduddin Attar's The Conference of the Birds (فرید الدین عطار): thousands of birds cross seven valleys - corresponding to the stages of the Sufi path - in search of an ideal king. At journey's end, the thirty surviving birds realize they themselves are the Simorgh (farsi for 30 birds), the king they had been seeking all along.
